What is Nebulization?
Nebulization is a widely used medical treatment that helps deliver medication directly into the lungs in the form of a fine mist, making it easier for children to breathe. In a children’s hospital, nebulization plays a crucial role in managing respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, and other breathing disorders. This non-invasive therapy ensures effective drug delivery, providing relief from symptoms and improving overall lung function.
Two types of Nebulisations as per condition of Child
(1)Without O2 & (2) With O2 Nebulisation
The Nebulisation Procedure @ Little Star Children's Hospital:
The process of nebulisation in a children’s hospital is carefully monitored by healthcare professionals to ensure effective treatment
Step 1: Preparing the Nebulizer Machine
- The nebulizer is assembled, and the prescribed medication is measured and added to the device.
- The machine is connected to a power source or a battery-operated unit for portability.
Step 2: Positioning the Child
- The child is seated in a comfortable position, preferably upright to allow proper airflow.
- A mask or mouthpiece is placed over the child’s nose and mouth to ensure effective inhalation.
Step 3: Administering the Medication
- The nebulizer is turned on, and the medication is transformed into a mist.
- The child is encouraged to breathe normally while inhaling the medicated mist for 5-10 minutes.
- If needed, parents or healthcare providers can soothe or distract the child to keep them relaxed during the process.
Step 4: Post-Treatment Care
- After the medication is administered, the nebulizer parts are cleaned and disinfected to prevent contamination.
- The child’s response to the treatment is monitored to ensure improvement in breathing and overall condition.
- Further doses or follow-up treatments are scheduled as per the doctor’s instructions.
